As part of efforts to enhance regulatory oversight in the ECOWAS region, the ECOWAS RegECs Project will host two critical simulation exercises in Accra, Ghana, focusing on Lassa fever vaccine development. These sessions, part of Work Package 2, aim to strengthen the practical skills of National Regulatory Agencies (NRAs) and Ethics Committees (ECs) in handling vaccine development processes.
The joint Scientific Advice Meeting (Simulation 3) and Clinical Trial Application Review Meeting (Simulation 4) will be held from 10th to 12th March 2025 at the African Regent Hotel, with participation both in-person and virtually.
Objectives of the Simulations
🔹 Enhancing Decision-Making: Strengthening the ability of NRAs and ECs to assess clinical trial applications using real-world Lassa fever vaccine development project documents.
🔹 Leveraging the AVAREF Platform: Simulating regulatory decision-making within the African Vaccine Regulatory Forum (AVAREF) framework.
🔹 Capacity-Building Through Practical Training: Providing hands-on experience in reviewing clinical trial applications and offering scientific advice.
A Step Towards Regulatory Excellence
By engaging regulatory and ethics professionals in real-time decision-making exercises, these simulations will contribute to harmonizing regulatory frameworks across ECOWAS, improving preparedness for future vaccine evaluations, and ensuring public health protection.
